How to run GEO Optimizer in Claude Code and Codex

GEO Optimizer gives your site a score from 0 to 100 for how ready it is to be read and quoted by AI search tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity, then lists what to fix.

The steps to check your site with GEO Optimizer: run the free audit, read the score and fixes, ask your AI to fix them, run it again.

What is GEO Optimizer?

GEO Optimizer is a free, open-source skill and command-line tool. It checks whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews can read your site, looking at things like your robots.txt rules for AI crawlers and your structured data, then ranks the fixes.

It can also write some of those fixes for you, like an llms.txt file, a short index of your main pages for AI tools. The audit runs on your computer with no account or API key.

Step 1: Install it

You need uv on your computer. To score your site without installing anything else, run:

uvx --from geo-optimizer-skill geo audit --url https://yoursite.com

It prints your score and a numbered list of fixes. To use it as a skill inside Claude Code, add the plugin:

/plugin marketplace add Auriti-Labs/geo-optimizer-skill
/plugin install geo-optimizer@geoready

The plugin doesn't install the geo command itself. If the skill asks for it, run pip install -U geo-optimizer-skill.

Step 2: Ask your AI to fix what the audit finds

Open your project in Claude Code or Codex and paste one of these, with your own address:

Run the GEO Optimizer audit on https://mywebsite.com, explain the three fixes that add the most points, and make them in my code.
Use geo llms to create an llms.txt for https://mywebsite.com from my sitemap and save it in my site's public folder.
Run geo fix on https://mywebsite.com to preview the changes, show me each file it wants to write, and apply only the ones I approve.

What should you watch out for?

A high score means AI tools can reach and read your pages. It doesn't mean ChatGPT or any other engine will quote you. That depends on the question and on who else answers it, and the same question can get different sources each time.

No AI engine has said an llms.txt file helps you get quoted, though it's quick to add. The fix list mixes big gaps with small tweaks, so ask your AI which ones matter for your site before it changes anything. The audit also ends with a link to the tool's paid web plan, which you don't need for anything on this page.
