5 free icon and 3D illustration sites your AI can pull from

These five free sites give your AI real icons and illustrations to work with, so your site stops mixing styles and putting emoji where icons should be. All five allow use on a commercial site.

Five free icon sites for your AI: 3dicons, Lucide, Phosphor, Tabler and Open Peeps.

Why pick just one set?

An icon set is drawn by one team with one line width and one corner shape. When your AI mixes two sets, or fills gaps with emoji, the pages look patched together. Pick one line-icon set below, then add this to your CLAUDE.md (or AGENTS.md for Codex) so every new page follows it:

## Icons
Use Phosphor icons only (@phosphor-icons/react), regular weight.
Never use emoji as icons.

Swap in the set you picked. The 3D icons and the illustrations can sit next to it, one style each.

Step 1: 3dicons

3dicons has more than 1,400 free 3D renders of 200 icons, made in Blender. They're CC0, so you can use them on client work with no credit. Open an icon on the site, pick a style and angle, and download the PNG.

Save the files in your project's public/icons folder, then ask:

Use the 3D icons in public/icons for the three feature cards on my homepage, one icon per card, all the same size.

Step 2: Lucide

Lucide has more than 2,000 clean line icons under the ISC license. Your AI adds each one by name, and the site keeps docs written for AI at lucide.dev/llms.txt.

npm install lucide-react
Read lucide.dev/llms.txt, then replace every icon and emoji on my site with Lucide icons in one size and stroke width.

Step 3: Phosphor

Phosphor has more than 1,200 icons, each in six weights: thin, light, regular, bold, fill and duotone. Pick the weight that matches your fonts and use it everywhere. It's MIT licensed.

npm i @phosphor-icons/react
Use Phosphor icons in the regular weight across my site, and use the fill weight only for the active item in the menu.

Step 4: Tabler

Tabler Icons has more than 6,250 free icons, all drawn on a 24 by 24 grid with a 2px line, so a big set still looks even. It's MIT licensed.

npm install @tabler/icons-react
Use Tabler icons for my dashboard sidebar and settings page, all at 20px with the same stroke width.

Step 5: Open Peeps

Open Peeps is a library of hand-drawn people under CC0, so you can use and change them on any site. The page has ready-made people as PNG and SVG files.

Download one standing person from the ready-made Open Peeps SVGs on openpeeps.com and put it on my empty cart page, in my brand color.

What should you watch out for?

Some of these sites also sell paid extras. Everything on this page is the free part, and each license is the one the site states for that free part.

The 3D renders are image files, so they weigh more than line icons. Ask your AI to resize and compress them before they go on the page.

Ask for one change at a time and look at the page on your phone before the next one.

Want your AI to set this up for you?

The Setup Kit is coming soon. Say what you're making, and your AI picks and installs the tools and instructions that project needs.
